Receptionist resume: examples and tips
A receptionist resume should show that you are the calm first impression: phones, visitors, and a lobby that stays organized.
What employers look for
- Phones: multi-line systems, taking messages, transferring calls correctly.
- Visitors: greeting, badges, NDAs or sign-in logs, vendor check-in.
- Lobby and mail: packages, shipping labels, keeping the desk tidy.
- Scheduling: appointments, conference rooms, reminders.
- Professional presence: punctuality, dress code, discretion.
Sample bullet points (use only what is true for you)
- Answered a multi-line phone system and directed callers to the right department.
- Greeted visitors, issued badges and maintained the sign-in log.
- Scheduled appointments and sent reminders by phone or email.
- Sorted mail and coordinated inbound packages with the team.
- Kept the reception area stocked and presentable throughout the day.
- Handled basic billing questions and took accurate messages for providers (medical office example).
A short summary
Example: "Receptionist with front-desk and multi-line phone experience. Friendly with visitors and careful with confidential information. Available for full-time weekday hours."
Skills to list
Multi-line phones, customer service, appointment scheduling, Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, mail handling, POS or copier basics, bilingual skills, medical or legal office terms only if you know them.
Medical, legal and corporate desks differ
A medical desk may care about HIPAA and insurance cards. A legal desk may care about confidentiality and courier runs. A corporate lobby may care about badge systems. Move the matching bullets to the top for each application.
Common mistakes
- No mention of phones or visitors when that is the whole job.
- A casual email address.
- Typos on a role that is all about first impressions.
